Traditional Willow Basketry Classes Bonnie Gale teaches a series of traditional willow basketry classes each year in Norwich, New York, starting in April and usually running to November. Beginning and intermediate classes are offered and are generally two days in length and held over the weekend. Some one-day beginner classes are offered. Inexpensive local accommodation is available. Beginning willow baskets include the Fruit basket, "Early American Life" Lunch basket and Bushel basket. Intermediate baskets that might be offered include the Oval Arm basket, Fireside basket, and Square Provision basket. In addition, every Summer, Bonnie Gale sponsors a foreign basketmaker to come and teach two or three intermediate willow baskets. Past year's teachers have included Michael Thierschmann (Germany); Mary Butcher (England); Daphne Heeroma (France); Eric Thornley (England) and Olivia Elton Barratt (England). Students come from far afield for these classes. We have pot luck suppers in the evenings and a good time is had by all! Bonnie Gale travels across the country teaching traditional willow basketry to Guilds and at Conventions. If you have an interested Group in your area, it may be possible to arrange a special class. Please write with details. In addition to these adult programs, Bonnie Gale also offers programs to schools. For more information, please follow the appropriate link below: |
